End of Term

Another successful term completed, with perhaps the most important term of our school lives directly ahead of us. During the Easter break, it is important that you revise throughly for your IGCSE exams, but that you are also taking some time to relax, so that you return prepared to face the challenges ahead. Here are a few tips to help you ensure that you have a productive break...

Study Tips
Lifestyle Tips
Create a study schedule and stick to it!
Get plenty of sleep- between 7-8 hours per night is recommended
Consult your exam schedule before putting your revision schedule together- eg. don’t revise for your last exam first and your first exam last!
Eat healthily and exercise regularly- a health body is a healthy mind!
Ensure you build breaks into your study schedule. Try to take a 20 minute break for every 40 minute spent studying.

Alternatively, check out the app for the ‘Pomodoro’ technique (a method of working whereby you work for 25 minutes, then take a 5-minute break, and then continue working for another 25 minutes. The work intervals are called “pomodoros”)

Take time to do things you enjoy
Divide your time sensibly between your subjects. You may need to spend more time focusing on those subjects you find the most difficult
If you are feeling stressed or anxious, try the mindfulness techniques on the link below:

Find a revision strategy that works for you. Reading notes is perhaps the least effective form of revision. Check out the exam skills website below which will give you some great ideas about revision tools: //www.examtime.com/
If you need to inject some positivity in your life, take a look at the positive thinking videos below:

Have a productive, rewarding break!

Year 11 Scholarship Process

To reward students who we feel exemplify the skills and qualities that make up our our Student Vision, the GIS 6th Form Scholarships have opened. There are up to 16 partial scholarships available and interested students should write a letter of application and hand this in to Ms Irene (Secondary Reception) no later than 3pm on Friday 27th March 2015.

A letter outlining the process in detail has been sent to parents via their FAM accounts. If students have any further questions, they should speak to their form tutors, myself, or Mrs Lawrence.

Good luck!

Positive Education

In Positive Education this week, Year 11 students looked at the importance of managing stress and maintaining a healthy lifestyle whilst studying for IGCSEs. Students learnt about a variety of stress-management techniques and were given tips to help them manage their time and workload more effectively. Hopefully, the key message students took away from the session is that success starts with a healthy body and healthy mind... and this includes getting at least 8 hours of sleep a night!

Kyung Chan Lee- Maths genius!

Congratulations to our very own Kyung Chan Lee (11G) who got full marks in the UKMT Senior Mathematics Challenge. Kyung Chan then took part in the follow-up Maths Olympiad in which he was one of only 13 students IN THE WORLD to get full marks! Absolutely incredible. Kyung Chan is currently awaiting the results of the second round of the Maths Olympiad. He is an incredibly hard-working mathematician who deserves every success and we are all extremely proud of his achievements. Well done, Kyung Chan!
